Studio Arts Degree Information

Students at Loyola may complete a major in visual arts with a concentration in studio arts, an interdisciplinary major, a major in visual arts with a concentration in interarts, a minor in studio arts, a minor in interarts, or take studio arts courses as electives.

Visual Arts Major, Studio Arts Concentration

Requirements for the major:

  • AH 109 - Non-Western Art or AH 110 - Western Art: Paleolithic to Gothic or AH 111 - Western Art: Renaissance to Contemporary
  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography
  • SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • SA 225 - Drawing
  • SA 350 - Visual Thinking
  • SA 400 - Senior Capstone for Artists
  • Four SA 300-level courses
  • One PT 300-level course
  • One AH 300-level or 400-level course

Visual Arts Major, InterArts Concentration

Requirements for the major:

  • AH 109 - Non-Western Art or AH 110 - Western Art: Paleolithic to Gothic or AH 111 - Western Art: Renaissance to Contemporary
  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography
  • SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • AH/PT/SA 350 - Visual Thinking
  • AH 300-level or 400-level course
  • PT 300-level course
One course from the following:
  • SA 225 - Drawing
  • SA 300-level course
Four courses from the following:
  • AH 300-level or 400-level course

  • PT/SA 400 - Senior Capstone for Artists

Interdisciplinary Major

Requirements for the major:

  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography or SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • AH 109 - Non-Western Art or AH 110 - Western Art: Paleolithic to Gothic or AH 111 - Western Art: Renaissance to Contemporary
  • SA 225 - Drawing or AH/PT upper-level course
  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography or AH/SA upper-level course
  • AH/PT/SA 350 - Visual Thinking
  • Two AH/PT/SA upper-level courses
  • AH 400-level capstone or PT/SA 400 - Senior Capstone for Artists (in consultation with program advisor)
  • Interdisciplinary requirements of another major

Studio Arts Minor

Requirements for the minor:

  • SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • SA 225 - Drawing
  • Four additional SA upper-level courses (300-level or higher)

InterArts Minor

Requirements for the minor:

  • AH 109 - Non-Western Art or AH 110 - Western Art: Paleolithic to Gothic or AH 111 - Western Art: Renaissance to Contemporary
Five courses from the following:
  • PT 270 - Basic Digital Photography or SA 224 - Two-Dimensional Design or SA 227 - 3-D Design in Art and Engineering
  • SA 225  -  Drawing*
  • 300-level or 400-level courses in AH, PT, or SA
  1. *PT 270 is an option if the student has taken SA 224 or SA 227.
  2. Visual arts majors cannot minor in InterArts.
